Our toothbrushes are tools that we should all be using a few times a day, in order to ensure the healthiest oral conditions possible. Toothbrushes see a lot of work over the course of any given period.

In fact, they see enough work that it is necessary to swap them out on a regular basis with brand new ones. Not many people are aware of this fact, and continue to use the same toothbrush that they always have for a long period of time.

In actuality, getting a new toothbrush on a regular basis is far more than just an aesthetic concern. It is a concern which can actually affect oral health.

As toothbrushes are used over the course of their lifespan, they naturally wear out and develop a lot of germs. As such, it is a good idea to take a closer look at both of these issues, in order to better understand them.

Whether people realize it or not, toothbrushes wear out fairly quickly. In fact, your average item is going to be effective for about three months which is when it should be thrown away and have a new one swapped in.

Taking care of oral health a few times a day quickly wears out bristles. When the bristles become worn, they are much less effective at getting where they need to go over the surfaces of teeth.

Bristles also tend to stiffen and become harder as they are used. This happens as a result of all of the chemical elements that they are exposed to during their operational lifespan.

Due to this hardening the bristle may not only become ineffective, but their change in consistency may even cause damage to your mouth. Therefore, it is easy to see how the effects of daily wear can provide the need for new oral care tools every few months.

As far as germs go, toothbrushes tend to accumulate them rather quickly. While keeping one of these items completely sanitary is almost impossible with what they are subjected to, the fact of the matter is that the bristles can be a potent source of germs. Obviously, the brush itself is going to be in and out of peoples mouths, will likely be stored incorrectly, will be exposed to bathroom aerosols occurring due to flushing, and more. While rinsing off the brush and storing it correctly serves to mitigate many of these issues, the fact of the matter is that they are quite adept at accumulating and repopulating.

By swapping things out every few months, you will be savings yourself exposure to large amount of germs. As a final note, it is also crucial to swap out brushes should they fall in the toilet or become damaged in any way. Doing so will eliminate the possibility of unpleasant contact. Your mouth is something that you will be caring for every day, so it is always a good idea to have the right equipment present to fight off the negative and to encourage good results every time.
