Daily Activity Can Save Our Lives

Recently, medical researchers have presented a study that indicates that sedentary jobs that require workers to sit all day might pose as great a risk to our health as cigarette smoking, even for those who fit in a session at the gym every day or several times each week. While there needs to be more study on this issue, it is a troubling statement for the millions of us who do sit at a desk all day for hours and hours each day. Here are a few easy ways to reduce the harm caused by a sedentary job.

There are many people who are dedicated to completing a morning or evening workout, and while this study shouldn't make you give up any exercise, you can mix it up a bit throughout the day. One idea is to reduce your morning workout by half an hour and then rearrange 15 minutes of exercise for a lunchtime walk and another 15 minutes for a bit of evening exercise. This allows you to raise your heart rate several times during the day, which is very beneficial.

If you work at home, consider getting up every hour and investing five minutes in some simple exercises. You can take a short walk, do some jumping jacks or invest in a small rebounder trampoline and bounce for a few minutes. Basically, you want to get up and get your heart rate up a bit and spend some time focusing on breathing and stretching. Not only will this benefit your heart health, it keeps your muscles warm, and you won't feel as stiff and inflexible.

However, many of us do still work in an office away from home, but one can still find little ways to get up and move around. When you have small breaks, take a few minutes to walk around outside and dedicate a portion of your lunch break to taking a walk. When you head to the restroom, go to a bathroom on a different floor or the opposite end of the building and take the stairs anytime you have to go from floor to floor.

Weekends are a time for relaxing, but you can also use some of your time for physical activity. Get out in the yard and trim some shrubs or weed the garden. Take the kids to the local park and run around. Play basketball or beach volleyball with friends or just go for a long walk or a hike. When you are hanging out watching television, don't just sit around the entire time. Get up during the commercial breaks and jump on your mini trampoline or do some jumping jacks or run up and down the stairs a few times.

Sometimes, pain keeps us from our physical activity, but exercise is often the best cure for a sore back, knee, shoulder or elbow. If the pain has really got you down for the count, consider using a natural product such as a physiological hybrid shape to help. The unique hybrid shapes are placed directly on a sore muscle, and they both protect this muscle and gain strength from nearby muscles, which lessens pain and reduces healing time. Many athletes complete full, intense workouts using a hybrid shape and report that they have much less pain. Best of all, these hybrid shapes are drug-free, so they offer you a natural, inexpensive way to heal your sore muscles.
